In their own words...
"As a first generation Latin American, it was different coming here, but I soon realized that I could just be me. St. Andrews is a school for people who like small classes and a close community."
- Anthony Fernandez, Class of '10

More about Rebecca Cameron

What brought you to St. Andrews?

My first involvement with St. Andrews was when my young son (now age 24) attended baseball camp here. I fell in love with the campus and the people here at that time. Since then, I have had the pleasure of being an adjunct professor on the Sandhills Community College campus for several years. I now am serving in my "dream" job that I have wanted to do since I graduated college. I am absolutely delighted to be here and humbled to be among so many wonderful colleagues.

If you could teach any course on any subject, what would it be and why?

I am extremely fortunate to say that I am teaching the courses that I love now - courses that involve literacy and fostering the love for teaching. It has always been my passion to teach anything involving reading and it has always been my desire to supervise student teachers. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to accomplish both of these goals.

What are some of your hobbies and areas of interest outside academic life?

Spending time with my family is my most favorite interest. I have a loving husband of 35 years, a son who is working toward a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy, a daughter who teaches kindergarten and a 4-year-old granddaughter who melts my heart when she calls me "B". Other interests include my church, my friends, walking, water sports, and drinking hot chocolate from Starbucks.

If you weren’t a university professor, what would you be doing?

I would still be working at my former job where I recently retired because the only reason I retired was so I could follow my dream of teaching here at St. Andrews.
