SAU Hunter Seat Team wins

The St. Andrews University Hunter Seat Team finished first at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Competition Sunday hosted by Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

East Carolina University, coached by a St. Andrews alumna, earned Reserve Champion Status in the competition.

Emilee Wilson, Kimmy O’Keefe, Cami Glaff, Jake Hobson, Kirsten Farley and Jessica Story contributed first place finishes.

Earning second place were Kelsey Kocher, Regi Barasch, Alexandra Fullerton, Nikki Napoleone and Janie Malott.

Kocher added a third, as did O’Keefe in a later class. Amy Wrozek finished third in her class

Barasch also earned fourth place in a second class for the day. Tara Algieri was also fourth in her class as was Samantha Garriques.

Julie Griffin and Betina Gore earned fifth place for the team. Fullerton also added a fifth place finish to her competition, as did Caitlyn Woychick.

Emily McBee was sixth in her over fences competition.

“We have a lot to keep working on but we did a lot well today,” said Equestrian Program Director Peggy McElveen. “Our riding homework is assigned.”

The Hunter Seat Team will next compete Oct. 27 at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The Equestrian Center will host a pair of dressage shows Oct. 26 – 27.
