Laurinburg, N.C. - Professor of Art Stephanie McDavid has been appointed Director of Academic Advising at St. Andrews University.

“I am extremely pleased that Stephanie has accepted this position and I am looking forward to working with her in this role,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Robert Hopkins.

The recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Faculty Service Award, McDavid came to St. Andrews in 1992 to teach art. During her tenure, she has been in the classroom while also serving as a division chair, a department chair and as an academic advisor.

“I am so delighted that the University has entrusted me to oversee academic advising,” said McDavid. “I have served as an academic advisor for many years and I am passionate about helping students in the academic process. I particularly enjoy working with new students; meeting them, discovering their interests, directing them on the path to majors, and even assisting with academic concerns.”

In this new position, which she is taking over from Associate Dean Edna Ann Loftus, McDavid will be responsible for coordinating academic advising for new and continuing students. She will provide support and training to academic advisors and work closely with Loftus, the Center for Academic Success and the Registrar’s Office to ensure that students are receiving effective academic counseling.

“The newest element of this role for me will be providing training and support for academic advisors,” McDavid said. “I know this is a critical element to the success of this program and am ready to take it on. I feel so fortunate to have the instruction, support and experience sharing from Edna Ann.”
