"As a first generation Latin American, it was different coming here, but I soon realized that I could just be me. St. Andrews is a school for people who like small classes and a close community."

SAU Dressage takes top spot in region with win

Raleigh, N.C. - The St. Andrews University Dressage Team now holds a two point advantage in the regional standings after a victory at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) Show held at North Carolina State University on Saturday.

Leading the way for the team was Sarah Jones, who’s second place finish in Intro Level C earned her Reserve High Point Rider for the day.

“Hard work really does pay off,” Jones said. “And having a great team to help and support me throughout the day makes everything a lot easier.”

Kristen Parker finished first in Intro Level B with Claire Pollard earning fourth in the same class. Brianna Carter was second in Training Level 2 while Lindsey Agaliotis was fourth in First Level 1.

Parker now leads her division by a commanding 21 points over teammate Pollard. With three shows remaining in the regular season, the points lead almost guarantees Parker an individual slot at the National Championships scheduled for April 26 – 28 at Mt. Holyoke.

“Assistant Coach Lindsey Agaliotis and I are struggling with our strategy for the last three shows,” said Coach Jackie Dwelle. “We host next Saturday and Averett has significant home team advantage Feb. 23 and 24 with a double header to close out the regular season. Kristen will point out with one more win and then it will be up to our other riders to step in and earn the points. It is going to be a couple of busy and exciting weeks.”
