In their own words...
"Living on campus is a life experience I have learned so much from. We eat together, watch TV together, study together, and do absolutely nothing together. When I go home for breaks, it's like I'm leaving my second family!"
- Jess Cutler, Class of '10, from FL

SAU finishes fifth at ANRC Nationals

St. Andrews University’s equestrian program began the National Championship season with a fifth place finish at the American National Riding Commission (ANRC) Championships April 18-22 at Centenary College in New Jersey.

Savannah College of Art and Design took the national title for the fifth consecutive year, with host Centenary College finishing second. Virginia Intermont and Sweet Briar finished third and fourth respectively.

“The team was smaller this year which made for more individual attention for the four of us,” said Katie Hansen, a junior at St. Andrews. “I think this gave us an advantage and more time with our coach Ashley Duda. She pushed us to be our best and made us really want to ride. This was the best placing for St. Andrews in ANRC in my three years on the team.”

St. Andrews finished third in the derby phase of the competition, fifth in both the written phase and the medal phase and sixth in the program ride.

Regina Barasch was fourth in the derby phase with Hansen sixth and Alie McGraw ninth. Hansen added a 10th place finish in the written phase.

The St. Andrews Dressage Team is competing this weekend at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) National Championships, also at Centenary College in New Jersey.

The Hunter Seat and Western Teams compete next week at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships in Raleigh. St. Andrews will be serving as the host school for that competition.
