SAU Western Team takes Reserve Champion twice

Laurinburg, N.C. – The St. Andrews University Western Team earned Reserve Champion Status at two Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Competitions held at Martin Community College over the weekend.

The pair of strong finishes allowed the team to maintain a 9-point lead in the regional standings.

On Saturday the team finished second to North Carolina State University. Shannon Leggett earned High Point Rider for the day after finishing first in Reining and third in Open Horsemanship.

Logan Teeter, Kimmy Simonsen, and Jake Nix also added first place finishes to the team effort. Miranda Wright was second in Intermediate Horsemanship while Sami Cram, Maddie Webb and Dugan McDermott contributed third place finishes in their respective classes. Vicki Wiese was fifth in Walk/Jog.

Sunday saw St. Andrews again earning the Reserve Champion Status. Leggett earned Reserve High Point Rider with a second place finish in Reining.

Cram, and Simonsen contributed first place finishes while Wright was second. Nix was third and Weise added a fourth place finish.

The Western Team will compete at home Feb. 18 before traveling to N.C. State for the regular season finale on Feb. 25. State will host the Regional Championships on Feb. 26.
