SAU Hunter Seat Team ends fall competition season in first

Laurinburg, N.C. – The St. Andrews University Hunter Seat Team completed the fall competition schedule on Sunday holding first place in Zone 4 Region 3 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) standings.

St. Andrews earned 33 points in the Sunday competition at Cottonwood Farm in Vanceboro hosted by East Carolina University to maintain a 32 point lead in the region over the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. North Carolina State, Duke University and East Carolina University round out the top 5 in the region heading into the holiday break.

“Every St. Andrews rider received ribbons in each class,” said Equestrian Program Director Peggy McElveen. “It was a beautiful day for the Hunter Seat IHSA team to compete at Cottonwood Farm and visit with alumnae Caroline Taylor and Nikki Heath, who run the farm.”

SAU riders also enjoyed first place finishes in four classes. Katie Hansen was first in Open Fences. Alie McGraw was first in Intermediate Flat. Sami Cram was first in Novice Fences and Valerie Robey was first in Walk, Trot.

The spring competition schedule starts on February 4, 2012 at the St. Andrews University Equestrian Center.
