Certified fight director runs two workshops at St. Andrews

Mark Bedell staged fight combat workshop
Theatre Professor Mark Mannette throws a punch at certified fight director Mark Bedell during a staged combat workshop for the theatre program at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in the Morris Morgan Theatre Thursday.

Laurinburg, N.C. – Certified fight director and stunt man Mark Bedell made a stop at St. Andrews Presbyterian College Thursday to run two staged combat workshops for the theatre program.

Bedell, a friend of St. Andrews Professor Mark Mannette, stopped at the College on his way to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he will be the fight captain and manager of the new Pirates Voyage stunt show opening this summer. He has worked on such feature films as Pirates of the Caribbean (Dead Man’s Chest) and Transformers.

“I am grateful to Mark that we were able to provide this opportunity to our students,” said Mannette. “We are busy preparing for the one-act plays next weekend and this is one more change for all of the students with an interest in theatre to hone their skills with a professional.”

Bedell is the founder of both the Maine and Missouri Academies of Staged Combat.
