In their own words...
"As a first generation Latin American, it was different coming here, but I soon realized that I could just be me. St. Andrews is a school for people who like small classes and a close community."
- Anthony Fernandez, Class of '10

Why Choose St. Andrews?

• Leadership -- St. Andrews has served its community since 1958 with innovative educational programs, nationally recognized competitive equestrian teams and musical ensembles, and majors ranging from business and elementary education to creative writing, forensic science and therapeutic horsemanship. Every year, community members, alumni and visitors from across the country participate in classes, seminars, guest lectures, performing arts events, athletic events and equestrian competitions on campus.

• Degree Prestige and Value -- For 50 years, St. Andrews Presbyterian College has provided students with quality education in the liberal arts and sciences. St. Andrews students and graduates are in high demand for prestigious internships, summer work experiences and graduate programs.

• Knowledge Excellence -- St. Andrews faculty members are leaders in their fields. They are active as scholars, researchers and inspiring teachers. The college’s academic standards and expectations are high, and academic excellence is pursued with determination and vigor. The skills and experiences faculty and fellow students bring into the classroom will help you apply what you learn.

• College Community Focused on Individual Success
St. Andrews is small learning community. Professors are accessible, enjoy teaching undergraduates and believe in the mission of a liberal arts education. In this environment, professors are encouraged to take time to get to know students by advising clubs and organizations and attending poetry readings, plays, concerts and sporting events. The involvement in and out of the classroom develops mentoring relationships between faculty and students.

As mentors, professors can celebrate a student’s accomplishments and encourage improvement in areas of weakness. Faculty can also tailor a program, suggest an internship or propose a guided independent study to foster individual success.

• Experiences for Life
Education at St. Andrews goes beyond the curriculum. In order to fulfill the mission statement’s mandate to “…acquaint them with those (1) abilities, (2) characteristics, and (3) values that distinguish human beings at their best, and enhance their potential to make a difference for the better in this world.” the College provides students with a set of academic and co-curricular experiences.  These experiences create a sense of personal value, achievement and tie students to the mission of the College.

• Globally Aware and Locally Active
St. Andrews offers opportunities to study in Ecuador, Italy, China and other locations around the world. The mission statement dictates an educational program that prepares graduates to “…make a difference in this world.” To achieve this goal, students must understand global citizenship and develop their own world view.  Study abroad programs are designed to give students an opportunity to have direct and intimate interactions with other cultures.  And local opportunities provide students with the ability to engage with others in a helping role over the four years one attends and personally experience the benefits of their contributions.

• Successful Outcomes
An essential message is that the educational program works. Each year the college conducts an outcomes survey of recent graduates.  Over the last decade the placement rate for graduates responding to our survey has exceeded 96%. This is an impressive rate and is an indicator that the educational program is a St. Andrews graduate is prepared for the rigor of graduate school and profession. Various publications, letters and emails plan profile the career paths alumni have taken. The purpose is to answer the question; Is it possible to become a ______________ with a St. Andrews education? The answer is YES!

• Affordability and Value
Value can be a very subjective concept. The College believes the notion that all people share a common expectation of value; the financial investment of money over the importance of time. Time is limited and therefore valuable and people want the most for their money over time.

With a student to faculty ratio of 13 to 1 and the average class size of 15-20, students do not wait to get the classes needed to graduate. The value is communicated when students and parents realize that St. Andrews students are off to jobs or graduate school often a year ahead of their friends who chose to attend a large university.

Affordability is communicated by emphasizing the St. Andrews Achievement Awards. The simplicity of the awarding system gives students and parents insight into the types of scholarships available, qualifications needed to obtain a scholarship and the amount of money associated with each award level and the assurance that these awards are available for the four years of attendance.

• Financial Aid – St. Andrews awards institutional scholarships for merit and need.  Upon qualification, financial aid is available to students. After receiving your completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), St. Andrews financial aid specialists will work with you to develop a customized financial aid plan.
