Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta)
Tao Rho Chapter
Tri-Beta is a biological honor society for undergraduate students who are maintaining academic excellence in the life sciences. It desires to cultivate intellectual interests in the natural sciences and to promote a better appreciation of biological studies. Since its founding in 1922, more than 175,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 430 chapters have been established throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Qualifications for full, life-long membership include: Declared Biology major, among the Sophomore class or higher and a maintained GPA of 3.0 or higher. Other science majors can also become Associate members of Tri-Beta, if they also hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Tri-Beta members are encouraged to participate in club fundraisers, invite leaders in the scientific community to present research to the St. Andrews society and participate in their own research project. Members of Tri-Beta are given a chance to present their research to the national convention for a chance to be published in the Tri-Beta quarterly journal, BIOS. Students who meet the qualifications may be honored with induction into Tri-Beta. Induction occurs once a year in the spring semester. The selected students have a chance to become members of the prestigious national society.
