All Stars edge Knights tennis, 5-4

The All Stars improved to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference while the Knights fell to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the CVAC. Milam and Hanna put the first point on the board for SAPC with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Freshmen pair of Ashley Walters (St. Pauls, NC) and Morgan Worthington (Kinston, NC) was downed 8-4 and the duo of senior April Rowe (Elizabeth City, NC) and Charleen Cook (Riverside, CA) fell 8-2. In singles play, No. 6 Hanna (6-2, 6-0) and No. 3 Milam (6-0, 6-2) captured two quick points for the Knights. In a hard fought battle, No. 4 Cook conquered her opponent 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) for St. Andrews final point. However, Converse received strong play at No. 1 Tina Rohner (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Ive Jardim (6-3, 6-1) and No. 5 Virginia Jones (6-2, 6-1) to take the match. St. Andrews travels to Banner Elk, North Carolina, for a CVAC showdown with Lees-McRae College on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Doubles |



LAURINBURG, NC—Sophomore Kellie Milam (Emporia, KS) and freshman Rachel Hanna (Concord, NH) teamed up for a doubles win for the St. Andrews women’s tennis team, before winning both of their singles matches but visiting Converse College escaped with a 5-4 CVAC victory on Saturday at the Scotland County Tennis Complex.
