Women's Soccer Cannot Catch the PatriotsOctober 17, 2011 Laurinburg, NC- St. Andrews women’s soccer journeyed to Florence, SC, this afternoon to take the field with the Patriots of Francis Marion University. The FMU defense proved to be too much for the Knights as they lost the regional matchup 7-0. The only Knight to challenge the Patriot defense, Gabrielle Jaramillo (Fayetteville, NC) took the only shot for SAU (1-13 Overall) in today’s game. FMU (4-10-1) got the ball rolling in the first period by picking up a two-goal lead before half time. Chanel Harris blasted the first goal for the patriots, followed shortly by teammate Kelly Kady who added the second goal. Freshman keeper Hannah Platt (Burgaw, NC) saw 10 shots on goal from the Patriots during the first half of the game. After the second half, Platt had faced 14 more shots from FMU, giving her a total of 17 saves in the one-sided attack on the goal. Adding more goals for the Patriots, Harris booted another ball past Platt during the second half; while teammates Yasmin Bunter and Erin Breen worked together to score goals four and five within one minute of each other. Contributing the final two goals, Kady tapped a loose ball straight into the goal from inside the box and Lauren Soper sent a rocket into the net from ten yards out with only 00:37 seconds left on the clock. The Knights will next appear in Laurinburg. The ladies will host Methodist University on Thursday, October 20. Play will being promptly at 4:00 PM on Knights Field. -GO KNIGHTS- |
