King College Blows by KnightsOctober 1 , 2011 Bristol, TN- After the long ride to King College, the Knights stepped onto the field for a cold, rainy day of soccer in the Appalachian Mountains. With the elements working against them, the SAU ladies were unable to restrain King as the Tornado squad left the Knights with a 0-4 loss in today’s Conference Carolinas women’s soccer game. The Knights were only able to take a handful of shots at King keeper Abbey Kitts. Altogether, the SAU force took four shots. Chelsea Ross (Newark, NY), Rebekah Webster (Pleasant Grove, UT), and Olivia Taylor (Fountain Inn, SC) each put their foot on the ball, but could not put true pressure on Kitts, who was in the goal for King for the entire 90:00 minute game. Hannah Wilson (Salisbury, NC) made Kitts work as she blasted a ball towards the goal. Kitts was able to get her hands on Wilson’s shot however and earned one save. Katie Jaskulski (Orlando, FL) and the SAU (0-7 Conference, 1-8 Overall) defense kept King (3-3 Conference, 4-4 Overall) to a slow start, only allowing the Tornado to score once in the first half. Devon Shanklin of King College scored the first goal for the Tornado after 30:40 minutes of play after she stopped a wide shot from teammate Casey Shanklin and placed the ball just out of Jaskulski’s reach. However, Jaskulski held off the other shots on goal and earned six saves in the first half. The King Tornado picked up the pace in the last 20:00 minutes, scoring the remaining three goals. Kaitlin Robinson and Hannah Shankel each scored one goal for King as they each sent a rocket into the top left corner of the goal. Morgan Shelton added the final Tornado goal after she assisted both Robinson and Shankel with their goals. These three ladies, as well as several other members of the squad, fired off a total of 16 shots on goal during the game; 12 of which were saved by Jaskulski, giving her a total of 42 saves after only three appearances in the goal. The Knights will play a little closer to home on Monday, October 3 as they travel to Wingate University to take on the Bulldogs at 7:00 PM. -GO KNIGHTS- |
