Knights Fall Hard Against Trojans

Mount Olive, NC- The Trojans of Mount Olive College hosted St. Andrews in this evening’s Conference Carolinas, women’s soccer game. The visiting Knights fell behind quickly and could not recover as the Trojans charged by on their way to a 0-10 victory over St. Andrews.

Knights keeper Hannah Platt, a freshman from Burgaw, NC, faced 23 shots from the Trojans of Mount Olive (2-0 Conference, 3-1-1 Overall) during her 90 minutes of play. Platt got in front of 13 of the Trojans’ shots, but her efforts and those of the St. Andrews (0-4, 1-5) squad did not match up to the regionally ranked (8th) Trojans.

Olivia Taylor (Fountain Inn, SC) and Heather Cockburn (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) were the only two Knights to successfully take a shot at senior goalie Lyndsey McIntyre, who earned two saves for Mount Olive.

Lindsey Stanley, a senior at Mount Olive College, starting things off for the Trojans by netting two goals early during the game; the first after only nine and a half minutes of play and the second after the 11 minute mark. Becky Sanzsole got her foot on the ball and scored the third goal of the half for the Trojans.

Stanley returned after half time to earn yet another goal by blasting a ball into the net from 10 yards out. MOC sophomore Sarah Porter showed her talent in the second half and scored three consecutive goals for the Trojans, giving Mount Olive its second hat trick of the game. Janaya Finney, Caroline Smith, and Cara Paxson helped the Trojans reach their final score of 10 by scoring one goal each.

The Flying Fleet from Erskine College (Due West, SC) will journey to Laurinburg on Saturday, September 24 go up against the Knights at 2:00 PM.
