Box Score

Laurinburg, NC- A burst of energy came over the Knights 15 minutes into the second half leading Hannah Wilson (Salisbury, NC) and Olivia Taylor (Fountain Inn, SC) to both score a goal within 45 seconds of each other. However, their quick push towards the goal proved insufficient as the Barton College (Wilson, NC) Bulldogs won the Conference Carolinas showdown 5-2 over the Knights.

The St. Andrews (1-3 Overall, 0-2 Conference) defense left a small path open that Sara Treadwell of Barton (1-2, 1-1) found as she started the Bulldogs off early with her first goal at the 10 minute mark. Treadwell continued to pressure the Knights and again worked her way past the defenders and put the ball in the net, for her second goal.

Barton scored two additional goals in the first 16 minutes of the second half, with Taylor Parrish and Anna Tressler each scoring one goal. This four-goal run from the Bulldogs caused the Knights to step up their play, giving Wilson and Taylor the motivation that they needed to get in the box and attack the goal.

The first goal for the Knights resulted from a cross pass from senior Chelsea Ross (Newark, NY) that sophomore Wilson jumped for and headed the ball into the middle of the net. St. Andrews’ second and final goal took teamwork, as quick play and precise ball placement led freshman Rebekah Webster (Pleasant Grove, UT) to feed Taylor a crisp pass in the box; giving Taylor a shot at an open spot of the goal.

Hannah Platt (Burgaw, NC) grabbed five of the shots taken by the Lady Bulldogs. However, Parrish, a Barton sophomore, responded to the Knights’ attack with 15 minutes left on the clock as she scored her second goal of the game and Barton’s final goal of the game.

Women’s soccer will be on Knights Field on the campus of St. Andrews again on Saturday, September 17 when they take on the Queens University of Charlotte Royals at 2:00 PM.
