Box Score

Banner Elk , NC- The Bobcats of Lees-McRae College dribbled by the Knights early in today’s women’s soccer game. After St. Andrews made the journey to the Blue Ridge Mountains, they were unable to score against the Bobcats’ strong defense, leading to a 10-0 loss for the Knights.

The Bobcats (1-2, 1-0 Conference Carolinas) came out strong, scoring eight goals in the first 45 minutes of play. Freshman keeper Hannah Platt (Burgaw, NC) managed to get her gloves on 16 of the 27 total shots on goal from the Bobcats. Marybeth Sullivan and Jessica O’Leary led the charge for Lees-McRae, scoring two goals each.

Sullivan worked her way through the Knights’ (1-2, 0-1 Conference Carolinas) defense early and put the Bobcats on the board less than three minutes into the match. O’Leary pushed the margin to 3-0 late in the 17th minute, taking possession of a failed clearing attempt 30 yards from goal and delivering a masterful finish into the far corner of the net.

The Bobcats worked together to tally their score, with several players earning assists: Vickie Rich-3, Mary Gibson-1, and Brooke Santerre- 2. Alicia Pierson and Caitlyn Briggs each defended the net for Lees-McRae, each playing one half.

The Knights go up against Conference Carolinas own Barton College for their next competition. Kick off is set for Wednesday, September 14 at 3:00 PM on Knights Field in Laurinburg, N.C.
