Lady Knights booters tie Chowan

LAURINBURG, N.C.—Freshman Marie Savage (Lyons, N.Y.) scored the game-tying goal for host St. Andrews Presbyterian College in the 73rd minute en route to a 2-2 double overtime tie against non-conference Chowan University on Saturday afternoon during Knights Fest 2007.
The Lady Knights extended their undefeated streak to seven games while maintaining a 6-5-4 overall record. SAPC has played in seven overtime contests with an impressive 2-1-4 mark in games that go past regulation time. The Hawks hold a 5-7-3 ledger.
Junior Kerrie Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) gave St. Andrews the initial lead in the 32nd minute by scoring on long free kick. Brown’s team-high sixth goal of the season gave the Knights a 1-0 lead that they would kept through halftime.
Chowan rallied back and took the lead in second half with a pair of goals in a one minute and 18 second span. Senior Stephanie Montague (Virginia Beach, Va.) tied the game up in the 65th minute and sophomore Meredith McCarthy (Kitty Hawk, N.C.) put the visitors on top in the 67th minute.
St. Andrews finally deadlocked the game for good at 2-2 when Savage scored on a corner kick taken by Brown, whose three-point day increased her team-high total to 15 points.
Junior goalkeeper Garrison Burton (Atlanta, Ga.) made two saves for the Knights in 110 minutes of action. SAPC dominated play with a 17-8 shot advantage and 4-1 edge on corner kicks.
Senior Casey Driver (Yorktown, Va.) and sophomore Katie Perkins (Chesapeake, Va.) picked up assists for the Hawks.
