BANNER ELK, N.C.—Senior forward Crystal Olu-Taylor (Raleigh, N.C.) scored a late goal to propel the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s soccer team to a 1-0 shutout at Conference Carolinas rival Lees-McRae College on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Knights spoiled the Bobcats homecoming with their fourth consecutive shutout. St. Andrews moves up the conference standings with a 4-5-3 overall record and a 2-2-3 mark in the league. Lees-McRae falls to 4-10 and 2-5.

Both teams had limited scoring opportunities and the game remained scoreless at halftime.

St. Andrews finally broke onto the scoreboard with the only goal of the game in the 71st minute. Freshman Sam Frazer’s (Goldsboro, N.C.) crossing pass connected with Olu-Taylor, who then ripped the game-winning goal past the Bobcats goalkeeper.

Olu-Taylor’s first game-winning tally was her second goal of the season while Frazer’s helper was her first collegiate assist.

Junior goalkeeper Garrison Burton (Atlanta, Ga.) and the Knights defense -- that features a starting defensive line of freshman Becky Brandenburg (Swansboro, N.C.), junior Brittany Forrest (Lexington, N.C.), and seniors Kellie Milam (Emporia, Kan.) and Jamie Gomez (Saugus, Calif.) -- once again provided an impenetrable wall for the opposition.

Burton made five saves en route to her sixth shutout in the team’s last seven games. Burton and the SAPC defense have not allowed a goal in over 419 minutes (just one minute shy of seven hours). Burton’s fourth consecutive shutout lowered her goals against average to 0.93 on the campaign.

St. Andrews hosts Conference Carolinas foe Queens University of Charlotte on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
