LAURINBURG, N.C.—Junior Laura Dickson (Aiken, S.C.) scored her first goal of the season to lead the visiting University of South Carolina at Aiken women’s soccer team to a 3-0 non-conference victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Jennifer Goodwin (Walterboro, S.C.) had a goal and an assist and freshman Brittany Paletar (Bel Air, Md.) provided a pair of assists to improve the Pacers to 3-7 on the season.
USCA held an 11-1 shot advantage to hand the Knights (2-5-1 overall) their first loss at home.
Dickson put the Pacers on the board in the 37th minute with the eventual game-winning goal. Sophomore Hanna Walsh (Lexington, S.C.) started an indirect kick by tapping the ball to Dickson, who then ripped a shot from just outside the box that deflected off a diving St. Andrews goalkeeper and just inside the near post.
The game remained a close 1-0 contest until the hosts when down one player with 27 minutes left. After the SAPC red card, Aiken pressed on offense and was able to add a pair of insurance goals with the additional player.
Junior Lauren Myers (Cross Lanes, W.Va.) doubled up the Pacers lead by stuffing away a close open shot at the 69-minute mark. Goodwin started the play with a crossing pass to Paletar inside the SAPC box, who then found Myers. Goodwin added the final goal just one minute and 12 seconds later after getting a breakaway pass from Paletar.
USC-Aiken freshman goalkeeper Nicole Westphal (Springfield, Va.) only needed to make one save to earn the shutout. Junior goalkeeper Garrison Burton (Atlanta, Ga.) had three stops for the Knights.
