LAURINBURG, N.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s soccer team was unable to muster up a goal in their home opener, competing to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Conference Carolinas foe Barton College on a windy Wednesday afternoon.

The Knights, who are 1-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference, picked up their first point in league play after the 110-minutes of scoreless soccer. The Lady Bulldogs, who have become accustom to playing in deadlocked matches, maintain a 1-2-4 overall record while remaining undefeated in conference play at 1-0-2.

SAPC out shot Barton 8-2 in the first half, but only put one of those shots on frame.

The Knights best scoring opportunity probably came with about 20 minutes left in regulation. Freshman Sam Frazer (Goldsboro, N.C.) made a breakaway pass to senior Crystal Olu-Taylor (Raleigh, N.C.), who rifled a hard shot on goal but Barton sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Gregory (Wilson, N.C.) made the save.

The Lady Bulldogs took four of their 10 shots in the first extra stanza, including what looked to be the game-winning goal by senior Allie Wilkerson (Maryland). However, SAPC junior netminder Garrison Burton made a diving one-handed save, punching the ball just above the crossbar to preserve the shutout.

St. Andrews held slim advantages on shots, 11-10, and corner kicks, 8-5.

Burton made a game-high four saves in her first shutout of the season while Gregory stopped three shots for the visitors in her third draw of 2007.

St. Andrews hosts Conference Carolinas rival Converse College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Barton travels to Banner Elk, N.C. for a league showdown with Lees-McRae College on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
