MISENHEIMER, N.C.—Juniors Brittany Forrest (Lexington, N.C.) and Kerrie Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) each scored a goal for St. Andrews Presbyterian College but host Pfeiffer University prevailed with a 4-2 Conference Carolinas women’s soccer victory on Thursday afternoon.

“The women played very well today, both technically and tactically,” said St. Andrews seventh year head coach Stevan Hernandez.

Megan Reaves led the Lady Falcons (3-5 overall, 2-0 conference) to the win with a pair of goals against the Lady Knights (0-4, 0-2). Angela Reale and Reaves scored the first two goals of the day to give Pfeiffer a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Forrest pulled SAPC to within one with her first goal of the season. Forrest confidently took a penalty kick for the Knights in the 37th minute, stuffing away the free shot.

The Falcons regained a two-goal advantage in the second half when Reaves tallied her second goal in the 58th minute. Pfeiffer maintained the 3-1 lead for over the next 30 minutes.

St. Andrews never gave up and Brown once again pulled the Knights to within one goal with a late score in the 89th minute. Brown crushed a stinging free kick from just outside the 18-yard box off the Falcons goalkeepers diving hands and into the back of the Pfeiffer goal with only 1:53 left.

“We possessed the ball a good bit but we were unable to create the offensive opportunities we wanted,” added Hernandez. “We fell behind early but never gave up and spent a lot of time pressing forward to try and tie the game.”

Stephanie Sexton ended the St. Andrews rally with a last-minute goal. Sexton netted a penalty kick with 27 seconds remaining to give the hosts the final 4-2 margin of victory.

Junior goalkeeper Garrison Burton (Atlanta, Ga.) made a game-high six saves for the Knights.

“I am happy with the way our team played today. Now, we look forward to North Greenville on Saturday,” concluded Hernandez.

St. Andrews will visit non-conference North Greenville University ( Tigerville, S.C.) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
