No. 8 Catawba women's soccer blanks Knights, 5-0

LAURINBURG, NC—Four different Lady Indians scored goals on Thursday as the No. 8 nationally ranked Catawba College women’s soccer team defeated host St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 5-0.

Catawba improved to 14-2-1 while the Knights dropped to 0-16.

Junior forward McKenzie Burman (Rolesville, NC) scored the only goal of the first half at the 16:20 mark, putting the Indians on top for good.

Catawba surged ahead with three goals in less than an eight minute span starting with a Kyley Thompson tally in the 49th minute. Burman added her second goal of the game and 20th of the season two minutes later. Alyssa Schoenberg (Woodbury, MN) capped the run at 55:59. Lindsay Hinkle (Highland, MD) finished the scoring in with 59 seconds left in the contest, notching her first goal of the season.

Senior Stephanie Morey (Ephrata, PA) provided two assists in the second frame while Kelly Fearman (Allison, Ontario, Canada) and Lauren Ebersole (Hagerstown, MD) each added a helper.

Goalkeepers Kathleen Blake (Greensboro, NC) and Cathrine Balentine (Charlotte, NC) combined for the shutout without making a save. Blake improved to 5-0 in net.

Knights’ netminder Rita Brown (Huntington Beach, CA) made 12 stops on 25 Catawba shots.

St. Andrews travels to CVAC rival Lees-McRae in their season finale on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
