Lady Saints soccer holds off Knights, 2-1

October 24, 2005

LAURINBURG, NC—Sophomore forward Cathy Zgraggen (Lilburn, GA) scored two late goals to lift visiting Limestone College to a 2-1 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women’s soccer victory over St. Andrews Monday.

The Lady Saints improved to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in the CVAC while the Knights fell to 0-15 and 0-10.

After playing a scoreless first half, St. Andrews looked to score the first goal early in the second frame on a sophomore Sarah Caron (Columbia, SC) shot, but it just missed going off the right goal post.

Zgraggen opened up the scoring in the 65th minute, stuffing away a Kristina Gaylord (Kendall, NY) pass just after a corner kick. Zgraggen added what seemed to be an insurance goal in the 87th minute to bring her season total to nine tallies.

Sophomore Myra Miller (Atlanta, GA) scored her second goal of the season with 46 seconds left to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, the clock was against the Knights and Limestone held on for the victory.

Sophomore goalie Liz Eichhorn (Fort Collins, CO) made one save in 90 minutes of work to pick up the win in net for the Saints. Freshman netminder Garrison Burton (Atlanta, GA) kept the Knights in the game with 10 saves.

Limestone out shot St. Andrews 19-3 and had seven corner kicks.

The Knights entertain non-conference Catawba in their home finale on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
