Erskine strikes early to defeat Knights women's soccer

LAURINBURG, NC—Erskine College scored both of its goals in the first 25 minutes of the game in route to a 2-0 shutout that spoiled St. Andrews ‘Homecoming’ and ‘Senior’ Day in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women’s soccer play Saturday.
The Lady Flying Fleet improved to 6-8-1 overall and 4-3 in the CVAC while the Knights fell to 0-12 and 0-8.
Jamie Locke (Brentwood, TN) scored the eventual game-winner only 2:02 into the contest on a Samantha Saxon (Clarkesville, TN) assist. At the 24:56 mark, Anna Weldon (Easley, SC) tallied the Fleets’ insurance goal on an Aisha Reid (Columbia, SC) pass.
Katy Jackson (Lexington, NC) picked up the shutout in net for Erskine, making both of her saves in the second half.
SAPC freshman netminder Garrison Burton (Atlanta, GA) kept the Knights in the game with 11 of her 15 saves coming in the first half.
Erskine outshot St. Andrews 23-4 including 17 shots on goal. The Flying Fleet also had nine corner kicks to the Knights two.
Senior Knight Molly McClinton (Marion, NY was honored at halftime for her dedication to the St. Andrews women’s soccer program.
St. Andrews returns to action at CVAC rival Mount Olive on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Erskine visits non-conference Faulkner on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
