Knights fall to Lady Cobras, 3-0

HARTSVILLE, SC—Coker College opened up its ‘Homecoming’ doubleheader on Saturday with a 3-0 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory over the visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s soccer team.
The Lady Cobras snapped a five-game losing streak to improve to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the CVAC while the Knights fell to 0-9 and 0-3.
Coker got things going early as junior Megan Shaver scored nine minutes into the game with a header off a cross from freshman Kathryn Friedmann. Friedmann gave the Cobras a two goal lead just five minutes before the end of the half, when she scored with on an assist from fellow freshman Emily Fifield.
In the second half Friedmann and Shaver hooked up again, but this time Shaver assisted Friedmann, with a cross right in front of the net that Friedmann put past the keeper.
Freshman keeper Jamie Swift, recorded the shutout for the Cobras, and had three saves on the day, while St. Andrews’ keepers Rita Brown (Huntington Beach, CA) and Garrison Burton (Atlanta, GA) each had six saves.
Jodi Frazier (Lexington, NC), Molly McClinton (Marion, NY) and Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, NY) all had shots on goal for the Knights.
St. Andrews returns to action next Saturday when they visit CVAC rival Belmont Abbey, with first kick slated for Noon.
