All Stars edge SAPC women's soccer in double OT

September 26, 2005

LAURINBURG, NC—Sophomore Myra Miller (Atlanta, GA) and the St. Andrews women’s soccer team saw its comeback attempt vanish in the 102nd minute, when freshman Brittnay Moreno (Seneca, SC) scored the game-winner to give visiting Converse College a 2-1 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory over the Knights.

The All Stars, who joined the league in 2005, earned their first ever conference win improving to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the CVAC, while the Knights fell to 0-7 and 0-4.

Sophomore Samantha Chapman (Spartanburg, SC) put the All Stars on top quickly, ripping a long shot under the Knights crossbar 3:26 into the contest.

Converse maintained the slim 1-0 advantage for 74 minutes until Miller tied the game in the 78th minute for St. Andrews. Miller blasted a shot from the right edge of the box and found the far corner of the All Stars net.

The game remained deadlocked heading into the second sudden death overtime. Moreno ended the game by placing a shot over the reach of Knights goalkeeper Garrison Burton (Atlanta, GA).

Brandy Criscitiello (Maysville, NC) picked up the win in net for Converse, making four saves in 102 minutes of work. Burton matched Criscitiello with four saves for St. Andrews.

The Knights have no time to recover from the loss as they host CVAC foe Barton College Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., while the All Stars entertain CVAC rival Anderson Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
