Byzewski’s hat trick lifts Lady Royals past SAPC, 4-0

LAURINBURG, NC—Freshman Kari Byzewski scored three goals in the first 20-minutes pacing the Queens University of Charlotte women’s soccer team to a 4-0 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory over host St. Andrews Saturday.

The Lady Royals improved to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the CVAC while the Knights fell to 0-3 and 0-1.

Byzewski tallied her first goal 5:02 into the contest on a Jackie Groff assist. Byzewski completed her hat trick with two goals in less than two minutes in the 19th and 20th minutes. Maria Housiadas assisted once and Groff added a second helper.

April Robertson extended the Lady Royals lead to four in the 48th minute on a Tamara Diaz-Matosis pass.

Queens’ goalkeeper Megan Mueller made two saves over 70-minutes for the victory in net. Charlotte Patterson did not face a shot in her twenty minutes of action between the pipes.

For the second straight game Knights goalie Rita Brown (Huntington Beach, CA) made 12 saves in the loss.

Tanya Darmanie (Santa Cruz, Trinidad) and Molly McClinton had the Knights shots on goal.

The Knights host non-conference UNC Pembroke on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
