Gaffney, SC - Senior heavyweight and captain Justin Hoover won his seventh consecutive match against region foe Limestone College on Thursday night. However, St. Andrews lost to the Saints 39-3.
Although it was a lopsided score, there were several close matches as former Pinecrest wrestler Greg Pattis got reversed in the final seconds to lose a heartbreaker 2-1 at 197.
Junior 125 pounder Eric Brown also lost by a close 19-13 decision after making a valiant comeback to make the match a decision instead of a major decision.
Sophomore Richard Manwarren also faired well in his match vs 5 th ranked region foe Bryce Sopko at 174 losing 13-6 after bumping up from his normal weight of 165.
“With the Saints having 3 ranked wrestlers in their lineup I appreciated the effort of the team considering our depleted lineup with half of our starters out,” stated Head Coach Joe Baranik.
The Knights will next travel on the road to Newport News, Virginia for their last dual meet of the season as they try to get their fourth win of the year as they take on Newport News Apprentice School on Feb. 19.
