Fulmer & Brown win at East Coast Duals

January 25-26, 2008

PEMBROKE, N.C.—Freshmen Eric Fulmer (Glenshaw, Pa.) and Eric Brown (Norfolk, Va.) each won one of their two matches this weekend during the 2008 East Coast Duals hosted by UNC Pembroke on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night, No. 8 East Region ranked West Liberty State College defeated the Knights 36-4 with Fulmer providing St. Andrews with its only points of the match. The next day, No. 10 regionally ranked Kutztown University downed SAPC 42-3 with Brown posting the only victory for the Knights.

Fulmer won his 184-pound contest against West Liberty State (7-5 overall) by blanking his foe 11-0 earning St. Andrews four points with the major decision. Sophomore Brad McKee (Kings Mountain, N.C.) battled hard for the Knights losing a 6-0 decision to the No. 3 nationally ranked grappler in the 141-lb weight class. The Knights held their own in two other close losses to the Toppers including freshman 157-lb Andrew Roberto’s (Holly Ridge, N.C.) 4-0 decision and freshman heavyweight Andre Ellerbe’s (Laurinburg, N.C.) 7-0 decision.

Brown gave St. Andrews a quick 3-0 lead in the first match against Kutztown (8-3) winning his lightweight battle 8-4. Fulmer almost earned his second win of the weekend but was edged by the 7th ranked wrestler in the East Region by a 4-3 decision. Freshman 133-lb Casey Gashaw (Laurinburg, N.C.) was the next closest Knights wrestler to earning a win, losing a narrow 5-3 decision. The Golden Bears earned over half of their points in four matches with two forfeit wins and a pair of pin falls.

Fulmer and Brown each earned their sixth dual match victory in the East Coast Duals while Brown increased his team-high win total to 16 victories on the season. West Liberty State sent six regionally ranked wrestlers to the mat against the Knights while Kutztown had five regionally ranked grapplers.
