Three Knights grapplers post multiple wins at East Coast Duals

JOHNSTOWN, Pa.—Junior Brian Roznowski (Yorktown, Va.) and freshmen Will Harcum (Williamsburg, Va.) and Alex Mathews (LaGrange, Ga.) all picked up multiple wins for the Knights, as St. Andrews competed in three matches at the 2007 East Coast Duals hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Friday and Saturday.

SAPC dropped all three matches but the Knights had to forfeit two weight classes in all three competitions.

St. Andrews first dual match on Friday was against Limestone College. The two forfeits and three pin falls by the Saints helped Limestone to the 41-11 victory.

Roznowski earned the Knights first five points with his first technical fall of the year. Roznowski’s rolled to the tech fall win in the 165-pound class stopping the clock at 5:51. Mathews added St. Andrews’ final six points with his first pin fall of his freshman campaign. Mathews dispatched of his foe in the 197-lb division in just 1:23. Sophomore Kyle Craver (Lexington, N.C.) was the next closest Knight to earning a win, dropping an 8-3 decision in the lightweight division.

St. Andrews almost upset Anderson University in Friday’s nightcap but the two forfeits cost the Knights 12 points as the Trojans took the close 29-20 victory. SAPC out scored Anderson 20-17 in the other eight weight classes as the first year program continues to improve. The Trojans defeated St. Andrews 38-6 earlier in the year but the Knights won four matches this time around.

Craver recorded his second pin of the year, disposing of Anderson’s lightweight in 3:52. Roznowski won his second match of the day with a 17-4 major decision. Harcum followed in the 174-pound class with his own 13-2 major decision. Mathews earned a forfeit win for the Knights final six points. Freshmen Bryan Seal (Orange County, Va.) and DJ Chverchko (Loretto, Pa.) lost close 6-1 and 11-4 decisions, respectively, for SAPC.

The Knights concluded tournament play on Saturday morning dropping a 37-18 match to American International College. The Yellow Jackets used three pin falls and a major decision en route to the 19-point victory.

Seal put St. Andrews on the board in the 149-pound division with his first pin of his collegiate career. Seal downed his opponent at the 3:43 mark of his match. Harcum notched his team-high seventh pin of the year with a 2:59 fall at 174-pounds. Mathews remained perfect on the weekend at 3-0 with another forfeit win at 197-lbs. Craver lost another close 12-9 decision at the lightweight ranks.

St. Andrews returns home and will host Cumberland University (Lebanon, Tenn.) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
