Newberry 48, St. Andrews 3
NEWBERRY, S.C.—Sophomore lightweight Kyle Craver (Lexington, N.C.) picked up his first dual meet victory of the season with a 7-2 decision, but No. 12 nationally ranked Newberry College went on to a 48-3 victory over visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday night in Eleazer Arena.
The Indians improved to 11-2-1 on the season by taking advantage of a depleted Knights (0-7) lineup. SAPC forfeited four weight classes (133, 141, 157, 184) on the evening.
Craver picked up his third victory of the year after defeating Willie Jarman by a 7-2 score in the lightweight division. Craver has wrestled in a lot of close matches on the season, with nine of his 13 bouts decided by just a decision, with Craver finally breaking through on Wednesday.
The Knights next best shot at winning a match came at 149-pounds, where freshman Bryan Seal (Orange County, Va.) dropped a very close 11-9 decision to Latra Collick.
Junior heavyweight Charles Richardson (Virginia Beach, Va.) lost a major decision while 174-lb freshman Will Harcum (Williamsburg, Va.) was a technical fall victim. Both junior Brian Roznowski (Yorktown, Va./165-lb) and freshman Alex Mathews ( LaGrange, Ga./197-lb) were pinned by Newberry grapplers.
St. Andrews will compete in three matches at the 2007 East Coast Duals (hosted by Pitt.-Johnstown) on Friday and Saturday, January 19-20. The Knights will face Limestone (6:00 p.m.) and Anderson (8:00 p.m.) in rematches from earlier in the season on Friday. SAPC will conclude its trip to Pennsylvania on Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. showdown with American International College.
