Limestone 37, St. Andrews 16
GAFFNEY, S.C.—A trio of Knights won their matches at Limestone College, but the host Saints defeated the inaugural St. Andrews Presbyterian College wrestling team, 37-16, to spoil the first dual meet of the program’s NCAA Division II era on Thursday night at the Timken Center.
The Saints are 1-0 overall while the Knights are off to a 0-1 start in their inaugural season.
The first five bouts of the evening went by quickly as all were decided by falls. Freshman Eric Frick (Roaring Spring, Pa.) of St. Andrews defeated Greg Satterfield (Hampton, Va.) in the 165-pound weight class to start the evening. Frick improved his individual record to 4-1 on the early season after posting his third pin fall one minute and 31 seconds into the evening.
Freshman Will Harcum (Williamsburg, Va.) gave the visitors a 12-0 lead after defeating Limestone’s Todd Neptune (New Concord, Ohio) in the 174-pound division. Harcum leads the Knights with six pins after stopping Neptune at 1:47.
Limestone cut the visitors lead to 12-6 with a win by Dan Scanlan ( Leesburg, Va.) in the 184-pound weight class over freshman DJ Chverchko (Loretto, Pa.). Mike Walsh ( Port St. Lucie, Fla./197 lbs.) beat freshman Alex Mathews ( LaGrange, Ga.) to tie the contest at 12-12 and the Saints took the lead as Kyle Elliott (Valdese, N.C.) won the heavyweight division over junior Charles Richardson (Virginia Beach, Va.).
Limestone lightweight Matt Hall (Hamptonville, N.C.) won a 7-4 decision over sophomore Kyle Craver (Lexington, N.C.) to put the score at 21-12. St. Andrews lost six points after forfeiting the 133-pound weight class.
The Knights freshman grappler Bryan Seal (Orange County, Va.) gave his team four points with an 11-3 major decision over Zach McKeone (Atlanta, Ga.) in the 141-pound division. Seal maintains a winning individual record at 5-4.
Dustin Baynes (Liberty Twp., Ohio) got a major decision, 21-10, over freshman Elliott Hogge (Yorktown, Va.). The Knights forfeited the final contest of the match as the Saints recorded the 37-16 victory.
St. Andrews will host their first D-II dual match on Saturday, November 18, when they host Anderson University at Noon.
