Laurinburg, NC – The 2011 Knights women’s lacrosse team members truly showed what it meant to be student-athletes last year. Their strong performance in the classroom during the 2010-2011 academic year earned the team one of the 16 spots given to NCAA D-II institutions on the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s (IWLCA) Academic Squad.

In order to qualify for this prestigious award, a team must earn a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The Knights far surpassed this requirement as they earned a very impressive team GPA of 3.54 last year. Head Coach Kati Robbins expressed very high praise for her squad in regards to this outstanding academic achievement.

“I am so proud of the team for being named to the IWLCA Academic Squad list. These ladies continue to impress me with their hard work and dedication, both in the classroom and on the field. Their high regard for academic success exemplifies what we at St. Andrews want our student-athletes to be, accomplished, well-educated members of society,” says Robbins.

Along with St. Andrews, 15 other NCAA D-II institutions were honored awarded a spot on the IWLCA Academic Squad for the 2010-2011 academic year. The other D-II honorees include: Assumption College, Bentley University, Gannon University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Lake Erie College, Limestone College, Mercy College, Millersville University, Molloy College, Pfeiffer University, Post University, Slippery Rock University, Southern Connecticut State University, University of New Haven, and West Chester University.

Conference Carolinas proudly boasts three member institutions on the IWLCA Academic Squad, the Limestone Saints, the Pfeiffer Falcons, and the St. Andrews Knights.

The St. Andrews Athletic Department is extremely honored that our women’s lacrosse team has been selected to the 2010-2011 IWLCA Academic Squad. We greatly appreciate the scholastic dedication that these ladies have shown through this achievement,” says Associate Athletic Director Elizabeth Burris.
