Laurinburg, N.C. – The Lady Knights (5-10, 2-4) took to the field Wednesday afternoon to take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College (5-6, 4-1) in the season’s last home Lacrosse game. Both teams matched up quite evenly in what became a back and forth battle, with the Crusaders eventually tiring the Knights out and sealing up a victory.

The Knights struck first as Anna Egeln (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) darted her way past the defense en route to her lone goal of the game giving St. Andrews an early 1-0 lead. The Crusaders ;however, would respond as they went on to score the next three goals in a six minute span trying to put the Knights away. Sophomore Megan Jolly (Waterloo, NY) was not having any of that ;however, as she then answered right back with a goal of her own bring the game to within one with the score now being 3-2. St. Andrews continued to battle the Crusaders the rest of the first half trading goals back and forth with neither team able to break away from the other eventually ending the half with Belmont Abbey in the lead 5-4.

The second half proved to be a mirror image of the first, as both teams continued to trade goals with the first coming from Belmont Abbey just fifty seconds into the half. St. Andrews would try to make a comeback when Allie Faulhaber (Apex, NC) and Megan Jolly (Waterloo, NY) scored back to back goals to trim the lead, but it proved to be too little too late as the Crusaders kept marching forward. Belmont Abbey went on to find the net three more times in the half sealing up a victory with the score of 9-7.

Standing out for the Knights was Senior Kim McDaniel (Joppa, MD) who had two goals and two assists while both Allie Faulhaber (Apex, NC) and Megan Jolly (Waterloo, NY) who had two goals and one assist and Anna Egeln (Ponte Verda Beach, FL) finished out the Knights firepower with her one goal. St. Andrews resumes play next as they travel to Due West, S.C. to take on Erskine College on Saturday game starting at 2 p.m. That is the last regular season game of the year.
