Laurinburg, N.C. – The Lady Knights (1-6, 0-1) took on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University Tuesday in a high tempo, fast paced thriller. Both teams found the net seemingly at will during the game with the Ravens edging out the Knights late with a final score of 15-14.

The Knights found themselves in an uphill battle throughout the contest but never gave an inch and continued to fight. St. Andrews went down early in the first, but clawed their way back into the game with grit and determination. Franklin Pierce then went on a 4-1 run to end the first half with St. Andrews trailing 9-6.

The Knights knew they had to step of their game to keep up with the high geared offensive of the Ravens and that is just what they did. Franklin Pierce scored thirty eight seconds into the second half which lit a fire under St. Andrews and propelled them to roll of four goals unanswered to bring the score to a 10-10 tie. The game then went back and forth with both teams scoring left and right, including a goal by Senior Kim McDaniel (Joppa, MD) that came with 28.3 seconds left in the game. The Knights had one more shot to tie the game but Franklin Pierce played lockdown defense and solidified a win with the score of 15-14.

Scoring on the day for the Knights were Sophomore Megan Jolly (Waterloo, NY) with five goals and two assists and Kim McDaniel who finished with three goals and two assists. Senior Brett Vyverberg (Pittsford, NY) and Senior Allie Faulhaber (Apex, N.C.) each finished with two goals, and Junior Anna Egeln (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) and Sophomore Victoria Bickett (Louisville, KY) added one goal each to finish out the Knights scoring attack. Defensively the Lady Knights shut down the Ravens leading scoring, allowing her to only score one goal in the second half. The Lady Knight that was assigned that responsibility was Junior defender Sarah Kee (Lisburn, Northern Ireland). Senior Morgan Achilles (Geneva, NY) saw her first action this season as the Lady Knights goal keeper against the Ravens and did a fabulous job by saving 14 shots, causing two turnovers, and picking up seven ground balls. The Lady Knights take to the field again Thursday as they play host to Saint Michael’s game starting at 4 p.m.
