Arnold, MD – The Lady Knights, (1-5, 0-1) took their talents to Maryland this past weekend to compete against opponents from the powerhouse lacrosse state of Pennsylvania. The weekend proved to be a tough one for St. Andrews as they dropped games to both Bloomsburg College (3-1) and Mercyhurst College (3-1).

In the first game against Bloomsburg, the Lady Knights found themselves facing a very talented well rounded team from top to bottom. The Huskies played solid defense throughout and were swarming around the field collecting twelve groundballs while St. Andrews only managed to retrieve four in the first half. Offensively, Bloomsburg got it going by attempting 15 shots on goal in the half while scoring on nine of them. The Knights offense remained slightly stagnant, which forced them to just 4 goals on eleven shots bringing the halftime score to a 9-4. The second half played out similarly to the first as the Huskies continued applying their great pressure by winning most of the hustle plays. St. Andrews was able to fire off thirteen shots in the second half, but due to solid play by the Huskies goalkeeper, could only score twice while Bloomsburg added eight more goals in the second to end the game with a score of 17-6 in favor of Bloomsburg. The Huskies had ten different players score goals while The Knights were led by Sophomore Megan Jolly (Waterloo, NY) with two goals and three assists, Senior Kim McDaniel (Joppa, MD) who netted two goals and one assist, Senior Brett Vyverberg(Pittsford, NY) and Junior Anna Egeln (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) chipped in with a goal each respectively.

Game two found the Lady Knights up against another talented team with a high powered offense that proved to be too much for the Lady Knights to handle. Mercyhurst came out attacking St. Andrews defense relentlessly, posting up an astounding twenty one shots on goal in the first half while scoring on thirteen of those attempts. The Knights fought as hard as they could to keep their head above water, but found themselves only able to attempt ten shots in the first half only scoring on four of them. At the half, St. Andrews was in an uphill battle trailing 13-4. As the second half started it was as if Mercyhurst never missed a beat, attempting twenty one shots again on the Lady Knights and posting another nine goals. St. Andrews offensive woes however continued as the Knights kept committing turnovers and only managed to get off seven shots in the half scoring on five ending the game with the final score of 22-9 in favor of Mercyhurst. Leading the way for St. Andrews was Megan Jolly (Waterloo, NY) who posted four goals and one assist, Kim McDaniel (Joppa, MD) added three goals and one assist, while Junior Shana Schroeder (Newark, NY) scored her first goal of the season, and Sophomore Victoria Bickett (Louisville, KY) chipped in one goal. The Knights take the field again on Tuesday as they square off against Franklin Pierce at home starting at 4 p.m.
