LAURINBURG, N.C.—Senior defender Tenille Inman (Washington, D.C.) and junior attack Farran Sanders (Hickory, N.C.) – who were recognized at halftime during the Knights ‘Senior Day’ celebration – each scored a goal as host St. Andrews Presbyterian College rolled to a 19-6 non-conference women’s lacrosse victory over Greensboro College on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) led the Lady Knights attack with six goals and one assist for seven points as St. Andrews improved to 5-7 on the season. Freshman Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) added a hat trick and two helpers while sophomore Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.C.) netted four goals.
Freshman Toni Battaglia (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) scored three goals on three free-position shots to lead the Pride (4-9 overall).
Binggeli scored 11 seconds into the contest and the Knights would keep the lead for the remainder of the game. Sophomore Jill Donofrio (Elbridge, N.Y.) scored for the third straight game to double up St. Andrews lead before a Battaglia tally in the 9th minute put the visitors on the board.
SAPC recorded the next four goals to take a five-goal lead but Greensboro scored a pair of goals to pull within three. However, Binggeli ripped a late goal on a Sanders pass to extend the halftime lead to 7-3.
The Knights continued to pull away scoring the first three goals out of the intermission. McDaniel registered three of the Knights first five goals of the second half to earn the hat trick.
Battaglia scored her third goal on a free-position shot in the 44th minute but the St. Andrews defense held Greensboro scoreless for the final 16 minutes while finishing on a 7-0 run to coast home with a 13-goal victory.
Knights’ sophomore goalkeeper Elise Moore (Wexford, Pa.) earned her second win in net in as many days making seven saves. Pride freshman counterpart Lauren Maynard (Reisterstown, Md.) had 10 stops on the day.
St. Andrews was able to out score Greensboro 12-3 in the second half by controlling the ball including winning 15-of-16 draw controls in the final 30 minutes. SAPC finished the game winning 21-of-27 draw controls. The Knights dominated the scorebook with a 35-15 shot advantage and a 21-19 ground ball edge.
Inman attained her first goal of the season by getting the ball at midfield, racing all the way to the goal circle, and shooting a well placed shot just inside the far post. Sanders, who had a goal and an assist, logged her second goal of the season by depositing another accurate shot just below the crossbar.
Juniors Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) and Courtney Ross (Newark, N.Y.) each had one goal for the Knights. Wright finished with three points by dishing out two assists. Ross added one helper. Freshman Alexis Goldman (Winter Springs, Fla.) completed the Knights scoring with one goal.
Sophomore Christie Hebert (Alexandra, Va.) provided two goals for the Pride while senior Jennifer Donah (Easthampton, Mass.) scored once. Senior Christina Denney (Woodbine, Md.) had a team-high two assists and senior Layne Woodard (East Greenbush, N.Y.) had one assist.
St. Andrews visits Conference Carolinas foe Pfeiffer University (Misenheimer, N.C.) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. while Greensboro travels to the University of Mary Washington (Fredericksburg, Va.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
