LAURINBURG, N.C.—The junior duo Kelsey Binggeli and Courtney Ross -- both from Newark, N.Y. -- scored back-to-back goals to break a late tie as visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College escaped Lees-McRae College with a 14-13 Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse victory on Tuesday afternoon.

Binggeli scored a game-high five goals to lead the Lady Knights to their second conference victory, snapping a three-game losing streak. SAPC improves to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the league.

In a back and forth first half, St. Andrews took a one-goal lead in the final minute before the intermission but Cloe Klaus scored for Lees-McRae with three seconds left on the clock to tie the game up for the sixth time. The Bobcats held two-goal leads twice in the first 30 minutes but St. Andrews rallied back both times.

Sophomore Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.), who just reached the 100-goal mark in her first two seasons at SAPC, scored a hat trick in the first half to lead the Lady Knights into the midway break. Brown finished the game with five points adding a pair of assists.

Lees-McRae once again held a two-goal lead, 11-9, early in the second half with three of the first four goals. St. Andrews rallied with the next three goals. Binggeli scored the bookend goals in the surge while freshman Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) had the middle goal.

Cox tied the game up for the eighth and final time at 12-12 with her team-leading fifth goal of the game but the Knights tallied the next two goals. Binggeli netted the go-ahead goal with five minutes to go while Ross added an important insurance goal with 1:51 left that proved to be the game-winner. The Bobcats scored once more but SAPC defense held LMC off the scoreboard in the final 90 seconds to preserve the one-goal victory and complete the season sweep of the Bobcats.

Binggeli’s five goals tied her season-high when she scored five goals in the Knights first meeting against Lees-McRae back on February 17. Ross and McDaniel finished with two goals apiece while freshman Alexis Goldman (Winter Springs, Fla.) and sophomore Jill Donofrio (Elbridge, N.Y.) had the other Knights goals.

SAPC held a 35-23 shot advantage while also doubling up the Bobcats ground ball total, 24-12.

Junior Elise Moore (Wexford, Pa.) earned her first collegiate victory in net for the Knights in only her second collegiate start. Moore had six saves on the day.

St. Andrews hosts non-conference Greensboro College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The Knights will be celebrating ‘Senior Day’ during Wednesday’s contest.
