LAURINBURG, N.C.—Pfeiffer University -- ranked No. 10 nationally in the current IWLCA Division II Poll -- used an 11-2 second half to pull away from a one-goal game at halftime en route to a 17-7 Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Ashley Hill (Ellicott City, Md.), who was named the Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse Player of the Week earlier today, had a game-high five goals and seven points to lead the Lady Falcons to their second straight league victory. Pfeiffer holds a 6-4 overall and 3-3 league records.

Junior Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) netted a team-high four goals for the Lady Knights, who fell to 3-6 and 1-4.

Hill and senior Ellie Fenton (Odenton, Md.), who scored four goals, were part of a quartet of Falcons who scored multiple goals. Junior Krissy Bentolila (Potomac, Md.) registered a hat trick and sophomore Jamie Livingston (Winter Park, Fla.) added a pair of goals.

Knights’ junior Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game just 73 seconds into the contest. St. Andrews kept the visitors off the board for the first eight minutes before Hill tied the score in the ninth minute.

The Knights pulled out to a 4-1 lead with a three-goal run in a one minute and 37 second span. Brown started the surge with a junior Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) assisted goal. Freshman Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) won the ensuing draw control and connected with Binggeli as the Knights scored less than 10 seconds apart. Ninety seconds later Brown found the back of the net again to give St. Andrews a three-goal lead.

Pfeiffer answered and took the lead for good with a 5-0 run including a pair of goals by Hill. The Falcons looked to have a two-goal lead at halftime but Brown scored her third goal of the half as time expired to pull the score to 6-5 at the midway intermission.

The Falcons continued to lead 8-6 before going on an 8-0 outburst to pull away. Fenton started the run with back-to-back free-position goals.

Binggeli finished with two goals and one assist while McDaniel chipped in with one goal and one helper.

Pfeiffer out shot SAPC 38-20; held a 17-12 edge on ground balls; scored on 4-of-10 free-position attempts; and doubled up the Knights 16-8 on draw controls.

Junior goalkeeper Kristine Schafer (Glen Burnie, Md.) earned the win in net for the Falcons with seven saves. Knights’ junior counterpart Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) had a game-high 16 stops.

St. Andrews hosts No. 9 nationally ranked Queens University of Charlotte in conference action on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. while Pfeiffer battles No. 8 Mercyhurst at neutral Anne Arundel Community College in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
