Lady Knights surge past Regis women's lacrosse

MISENHEIMER, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College scored the first five goals of the second half to rally past Regis University, 15-13, in NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at neutral Pfeiffer University.

Six different Lady Knights scored multiple goals as St. Andrews improved to 3-4 overall. The winless Rangers fell to 0-3.

Sophomore Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) had a game-high six point performance to lead the Knights attack. Brown had four goals and two assists to increase her team-high totals to 31 goals, 13 assists, and 44 points.

Junior Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) had a season-high four point day with her first hat trick of the season and an assist. Classmate Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) also had four points with a pair of goals and two helpers.

A trio of Knights newcomers added two goals apiece including junior Courtney Ross (Newark, N.Y.) and freshmen Alexis Goldman (Winter Springs, Fla.) and Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.).

Regis jumped out to 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first 90 seconds and never trailed in the first half. St. Andrews tied the game three times in the first half but a last minute goal by the Rangers gave the visitors an 8-7 advantage at halftime.

SAPC came our firing to start the second half with a 5-0 run in the first 10 minutes of the final stanza to take control. Five different Lady Knights scored during that stretch as St. Andrews pulled out to a 12-8 lead. After the two teams split the next four goals, Regis scored three of the last four goals to pull within two scores but the Knights defense stepped up holding the Rangers off the scoreboard in the final three-plus minutes to preserve the 15-13 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) made seven saves in each half to earn her third win in net for St. Andrews. McCaffrey’s 14 saves was her fifth 10-plus save performance of the season.

Regis held a slim 30-27 shot edge while both teams scooped up 29 ground balls. SAPC won 17-of-30 draw controls including three apiece by Ross and junior Katie Rhodes (Auburn, N.Y.). McDaniel had a team-high five ground balls while junior Jitase Hall (Newark, N.Y.) had a team-high three caused turnovers.

St. Andrews will be off until they host Conference Carolinas rival Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m.
