LAURINBURG, N.C.—Gannon University, ranked No. 7 in the IWLCA NCAA Division II National Poll, scored nine goals in each half en route to an 18-6 non-conference women’s lacrosse victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Saturday morning.

Sophomore Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y.) had a game-high six points to lead the Golden Knights to their second straight victory in as many days to start the 2008 season. Gannon (2-0) continues its southern trip when they visit Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

Sophomore Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) tallied a hat trick in the second half to lead the Lady Knights (2-4) offensively. St. Andrews will next face Regis College at neutral Pfeiffer University (Misenheimer, N.C.) on Monday at 2:00 p.m.

St. Andrews’ junior Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) scored on a free-position shot just 70 seconds into the game to become the first 100-goal scorer in St. Andrews women’s lacrosse five year history.

Freshman Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y.) scored Gannon’s first two goals starting a 7-0 run. Binggeli would score the only other St. Andrews goal in the first half as Gannon took a 9-2 lead at halftime.

The two teams played a pretty even first half but freshman goalkeeper Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) helped Gannon take a seven-goal lead at the intermission making 10 of her 14 saves in the first 30 minutes.

Gannon continued to lead by seven (12-5) after the visitors scored the first three goals of the second half while SAPC recorded the next three scores. Millerd then registered a natural hat trick in less than a three minute span as Gannon coasted home to the 12-goal victory by finishing the game on a 6-1 outburst.

Gannon held a 35-24 shot advantage and a 23-16 ground ball edge. Gannon also won 15-of-26 draw controls including a game-high five by Eshenour.

Millerd and Eshenour both had four goals while Millerd added two assists. Sophomore Antonia Cianfrocco (Chittenango, N.Y.) followed with two goals and two helpers. Freshman Christina Blasi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in with three goals and one assist.

Junior Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) had the St. Andrews other goal while classmate Courtney Ross (Newark, N.Y.) had the only assist for St. Andrews. Junior Jitase Hall (Newark, N.Y.) had a team-high four caused turnovers.

Junior goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) made 11 stops for SAPC.
