CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Sophomore Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) had five goals and one assist for visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College but No. 9 nationally ranked Queens University of Charlotte received six goals from Amanda Mahle (Baltimore, Md.) en route to a 16-9 Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse victory on Saturday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex at Marion Diehl Park.

The Royals, who remain perfect at 2-0 overall and in Conference Carolinas action, took an early 2-0 when Mahle connected with Kelley Duffey (New Hope, Minn.) on both goals. The Lady Knights (2-2; 1-2) bounced back with two quick goals from Brown, who would score four of the five Knight goals in the half.

Caitlin O’Rourke (Winter Springs, Fla.) put Queens back on top in the 19th minute of play off of a pass from Duffey. O’Rourke would add one more goal in the half totaling two for the game. Duffey notched one of her own with an assist coming from Mahle.  Like O’Rourke, Duffey netted one more in the half and then contributed two in the second half.

Carolynn Loan (Cazenovia, N.Y./Herkimer CC) netted the sixth Queens goal of the half and her only one of the contest.

Knights’ freshman Alexis Goldman (Winter Springs, Fla.) scored the fifth SAPC goal with just 15 seconds remaining in the half to cut the Royals lead down to three, 8-5.

Queens went on a scoring run in the second half tallying eight consecutive goals in just over 10 minutes to take a commanding 16-5 lead. Mahle led the charge with four goals and one assist.  Kelley Wrightson (Gaithersburg, Md.) added a single goal, her third of the season.

St. Andrews finished the scoring during the half with four goals in the last 12 minutes of play. Junior Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) tallied two, Brown had one and freshman Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) notched the last goal. Wright added an assist for a three-point day. Brown, who finished with six points, has at least three goals and four points in all four of the Knights games this season. Browns leads the team with 16 goals, 12 assists, and 27 points.

Queens outshot St. Andrews 36-28 with Duffey leading the Royals with eight. Brown led the Knights with a game-high 11. QUC hada 28-16 ground ball advantage with junior Jitase Hall (Newark, N.Y.) collecting a team-high three for SAPC.

Royal goalie Rebecca Markle (Hampstead, Md.) made 14 saves in the game and junior netminder Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) made 12 stops for the visitors.

St. Andrews hosts non-conference Rollins College on Friday, February 29 at 4:00 p.m.
