LAURINBURG, N.C.—Seven different Lady Knights scored as host St. Andrews Presbyterian College cruised to a 16-5 non-conference women’s lacrosse victory over Methodist University on a windy Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore attack Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) and junior attack Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) led the Knights (2-1 overall) to their second straight victory with seven and five points, respectively. Junior Andrea DiStefano (Albany, N.Y.) led the Lady Monarchs (0-1) with two goals in the team’s season-opener.

While the veteran duo of Brown and Binggeli provided the offensive spark for the Knights, St. Andrews also got points from five newcomers to this year’s roster.

“I’m really proud of all of our new girls, they have stepped right in and taken over,” said SAPC second year head coach Lyndsey Boswell.

St. Andrews jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first six minutes and never looked back. Brown, who scored all five of her goals in the first half, had a hat trick in opening four-goal outburst.

Methodist scored two of the next three goals to cut the deficit to 5-2. DiStefano and junior Ann Ferrara (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) sandwiched goals around Brown’s fourth score to pull the visitors within three but St. Andrews scored the final four goals of the first half to take a commanding 9-2 lead at the intermission.

Freshman Alexis Goldman (Winter Springs, Fla.) and Binggeli scored back-to-back goals in 11 seconds to highlighted St. Andrews final surge before the midway break.

DiStefano scored just 74 seconds into the final stanza but the Knights followed with its third 4-0 run of the game to extend their lead to 13-3. Binggeli had one goal and two assists during that stretch.

After a Methodist goal by senior Christina Layson (Glen Burnie, Md.), freshman Allie Faulhaber (Apex, N.C.) registered her second straight goal for St. Andrews to stretch the Knights lead back to 10 goals, keeping the clock running for the final 15 minutes of the contest.

Senior Chrystal Bradley (Fairfax, Va.) scored the Monarchs last goal in the 52nd minute but Binggeli finished off her hat trick in the 56th minute to extend the final margin of victory to 11 goals.

The Knights had a dominating 38-14 shot advantage while picking up more ground balls, 20-14. SAPC also won 13- of-23 draw controls and caused 18 Monarchs turnovers.

St. Andrews goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) make five saves for her second straight victory in net. Sophomore counterpart Lindsey Cosgray (Middletown, Md.) had a game-high nine stops for the visitors. Knights’ senior defender Tenille Inman (Washington, D.C.) anchored St. Andrews defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

“Our biggest goal on the defensive end right now, is to keep control and slow down the other teams transition, and we did a great job of that today,” explained Boswell.

Brown’s seven-point day (five goals and two assists) increased her team-high totals to 11 goals, 10 assists, and 21 points in three games. Brown also had a team-high three draw controls. Binggeli followed with three goals and two helpers.

Five new midfielders to the Knights roster all got into the scorebook against Methodist. Ross and Goldman each provided two goals and one assist on the day while Faulhaber totaled two goals. Freshman Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) supplied one goal while sophomore Jill Donofrio (Elbridge, N.Y.) handed out an assist. Boswell commented, “Our midfielders stepped up today and played a really good role in controlling the pace of the game.”

Junior Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) logged one goal and one assist while junior Farran Sanders (Hickory, N.C.) chipped in with an assist.

“This is a great win for us. I think it’s just what we need to get us going for the next four games coming up heading into spring break,” concluded Boswell.

St. Andrews travels to Conference Carolinas foe and No. 9 nationally ranked Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
