LAURINBURG, N.C.—Sophomore attack Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) set new school records for points and assists in a game, leading the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s lacrosse team to a 17-8 victory over Conference Carolinas rival Lees-McRae College on Sunday afternoon.

Brown’s had three goals and seven assists as the Lady Knights rebounded from a season-opening loss on Saturday to even their record at 1-1 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas play. Brown’s seven assists destroys the old school record of four individual assists in a game. Brown’s 10 points is also a new program record for points in a game. Brown use to share the old record of nine points with juniors Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) and Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.).

“Kerrie (Brown) was a big help in the midfield with the draw controls and she played very unselfish on the offensive end,” said St. Andrews second year head coach Lyndsey Boswell.

Brown wasted little time to start her record-setting performance by scoring the first goal of the game just 14 seconds after the opening draw. St. Andrews built up a 5-0 lead holding the visitors scoreless for the first 16 minutes of the game. Brown scored the first two goals while the freshman duo of Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) and Nicole Richardson (Conyers, Ga.) followed with their first collegiate goals. Binggeli capped the five-goal run with her first of the day.

The Bobcats, who are 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the league, finally broke through in the 17th minute when freshman Desiree Cox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) took advantage of a foul by scoring a free-position goal. A minute late Cox struck again to cut the Lees-McRae deficit to 5-2.

Knights’ freshman Alexis Goldman (Winter Springs, Fla.) temporary stopped the Bobcats momentum with a goal in the 19th minute. However, freshman Ellie Psillas (Hagerstown, Md.) scored the final two goals of the first half to trim the halftime deficit to 6-4.

St. Andrews was able to take a two-goal lead into the break by controlling the flow of the game including winning all 11 draw controls in the first 30 minutes.

After the Knights coaching staff stressed team work at halftime, St. Andrews out scored Lees-McRae 11-4 in the second half to pull away for the 11-goal victory. The Knights offense was clicking in the second period with an assist being credited on 10 of the team’s final 11 goals including six helpers by Brown.

“The girls played as a team today, we have stressed that since the beginning of the year,” commented Boswell.

St. Andrews scored the first seven goals of the second stanza to coast home. The Knights dominated the scorebook with a 46-14 shot advantage. St. Andrews also had the opportunity to score more goals but Bobcats senior goalkeeper Olivia Maurey (Port Orange, Fla.) made 14 saves. Another four Knights shots went off the goal post.

Goldman and sophomore Elise Moore (Wexford, Pa.) helped St. Andrews dominate the draw controls, 21-6, by each collecting four draw controls. SAPC also scooped up more ground ball, 23-18.

The Knights defense was anchored by junior netminder Eryn McCaffrey’s (Cicero, N.Y.) five saves and senior defender Tenille Inman’s (Washington, D.C.) seven ground balls. McCaffey earned the win in goal for St. Andrews. Boswell added, “Our defensive made lots of big stops, and did a great job getting the ball back up to the midfield,”

Binggeli scored a game-high five goals while adding an assist for a six-point performance. Goldman tallied her first collegiate hat trick while adding one assist. Freshman Allie Faulhaber (Apex, N.C.) scored her first collegiate goal while junior Courtney Ross (Newark, N.Y.) notched her first goal in a Lady Knights uniform. Wright and junior Farran Sanders (Hickory, N.C.) added the other two goals for SAPC. Ross, McDaniel, and Sanders all added one assist to their goals. Boswell concluded by stating, “ Our freshmen were outstanding!”

Cox was the leading Bobcats scorer with a hat trick while White finished with two goals. Sophomore Clair Shaw (Charlotte, N.C.) scored the Bobcats final goal. Senior Amelia Henson (Spindale, N.C.) had Lees-McRae’s only assist.

The 12 total assists by St. Andrews is another new school record. The Knights previously record was 10 assists against Methodist College last season. The Knights will meet the Monarchs in their next game when they host Methodist on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
