LAURINBURG, N.C.—Sophomore Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) registered a hat trick and one assist for host St. Andrews Presbyterian College but the visiting Limestone College women’s lacrosse team won the Conference Carolinas opener for both schools, 18-6, on Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.) and Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) led the Saints (1-1 Overall; 1-0 Conference Carolinas) to the victory by each posting six-point performances. Junior Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.C.) added a goal and two helpers for the Knights (0-1; 0-1).

Brown, who led the Knights with 72 points last season, gave St. Andrews a quick 1-0 lead with a goal exactly two minutes into the game. The Saints catapulted into their first lead of the contest, 2-1, with goals by Howard and junior Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.). However, an unassisted goal by Wright in the 11th minute once again tied the game for the final time.

Limestone broke away from St. Andrews with the next six goals of the first half. The Saints also held the Knights scoreless for almost 20 minutes before Brown notched her second goal with 30 seconds left before the intermission to cut the halftime deficit to 8-3.

Junior Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) scored all four of her goals in the first half to help Limestone take a five-goal lead into the midway break.

The Saints continued to build on the lead to start the second half with the first three goals of the period but a pair of St. Andrews goals pulled the Royal Blue and White to within six, 11-5, with 20 minutes left.

Limestone, picked No. 1 in the Conference Carolinas preseason coaches’ poll, finally ended any hope of a comeback scoring seven of the last eight goals. SAPC played the final eight minutes down a player due to the team’s fourth yellow card.

Wise had a game-high four goals and two assists while Howard had a hat trick and three helpers. Junior Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.) and sophomore Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) each added one goal and two assists for the visitors. Farrell finished with two goals while senior Summer Ferraro (East Setauket, N.Y.) had one goal and one assist.

Junior Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) provided a goal for the hosts while freshman Alexis Goldman (Winter Springs, Fla.) tallied the Knights final goal for her first collegiate score.

Limestone held a 35-24 shot advantage while St. Andrews committed more turnovers, 19-10. The Knights held an 8-4 advantage on draw controls in the first half but the Saints bounced back winning 11-of-14 in the second half to finish the game with a 15-11 edge on draw controls.

St. Andrews will quickly turn around and host league rival Lees-McRae College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. while the Saints next host conference foe Belmont Abbey College in 10 days on Tuesday, February 26 at 3:30 p.m.
