LAURINBURG, N.C.—Seven different Lady Knights scored as the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s lacrosse team rolled past Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference rival Lees-McRae College 19-8 on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights, who ended a five-game losing streak, improved to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in the CVAC. The Lady Bobcats fell to 1-9 overall and 0-4 in the CVAC.
Freshman Abby White (Madisonville, Tenn.) put the visitors on top with the first goal of the game. However, Lees-McRae’s lead was short lived as freshman Kerrie Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) answered back for St. Andrews with the ensuing draw control and goal just nine seconds later to tie the contest at 1-1.
Brown’s goal started a 5-0 SAPC surge in just a three minute and 14 second span to take control of the game. The Knights built their lead up to 10-5 at halftime and scored the first seven goals of the second half to coast to the 11-goal victory.
Brown led the Knights attack with six goals and an assist for seven points.
SAPC held a commanding 42-19 shot advantage, 23-17 ground ball edge, and a 22-6 draw control lead. Freshman Elise Moore (Wexford, Pa.) won a game-high six draw controls to lead the Knights.
The Newark, N.Y, tandem of senior Corey Whitbeck and sophomore Kelsey Binggeli each scored four goals for St. Andrews. Binggeli tied Brown with seven points after added a trio of assists. Whitbeck totaled five points with one helper.
St. Andrews sophomore Alexa Muraida (Austin, Texas) and freshman Kristi Cooke (Greensboro, N.C.) each scored their first goals of the season.
Sophomore Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) followed with a four point day for the Knights including a pair of goals and two assists. Moore had a goal and sophomore Jitase Hall (Newark, N.Y.) chipped in with an assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) only had to make five saves to earn her fourth victory of the season for the Knights. Freshman Olivia Maurey (Port Orange, Fla.) made 13 stops in the loss for the Bobcats.
Senior Brittany Dabkowski (Manchester, Md.) and freshman Julie Campbell (Black Mountain, N.C.) led Lees-McRae with two goals and one assist apiece. Freshman Laura Hawthorne (Ocoee, Fla.) recorded two goals.
St. Andrews will host CVAC foe Queens University of Charlotte on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
