SAPC women's lacrosse rolls past Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—Sophomore Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) tied the St. Andrews Presbyterian College record for most points in a game with a nine-point performance at Methodist as the Lady Knights coasted to a 18-7 women’s lacrosse victory on Thursday afternoon.

Binggeli scored five goals on 10 shots while adding four assists as SAPC won its second straight game to improve to 2-1 overall. The Monarchs open the 2007 season at 0-1.

The Lady Knights scored 12 goals in the first half and held a dozen point lead at the intermission. Sophomore goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) kept the shutout bid in tack midway through the contest making 13 saves on all 13 shots on goal in the opening stanza.

Methodist finally broke through in the second half for eight goals, but the Lady Knights tallied seven of their own to cruise to the 11-goal win.

Binggeli increased her team-high totals to 15 goals, 11 assists, and 26 points through three games with her nine-point day.

Sophomore Farran Sanders (Hickory, N.C.) and freshman Kerrie Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) each added a hat trick for SAPC. Brown added one assists for four points on the day.

Sophomore Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.), who holds the nine-points in a game record with Binggeli after doing so against NC Wesleyan in 2006, added six points. Wright scored a pair of goals while dishing out four helpers.

Freshman Elise Moore (Wexford, Pa.) entered the scorebook with two goals and an assist for St. Andrews. Senior Corey Whitbeck (Newark, N.Y) and sophomore Jitase Hall (Newark, N.Y.) completed the Knights scoring with two and one goal, respectively.

McCaffrey (2-1) finished with a season-high 21 saves for the victory in net.

Lauren McGonagle and Bridget Holcomb led Methodist with three goals apiece. Netminder Lindsey Cosgray made 11 stops for the Monarchs.

St. Andrews will visit CVAC rival and No. 10 nationally ranked Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
