LAURINBURG, NC—Junior Jen Gappert (Annapolis, MD) led nine Lady Falcon goal scorers with five goals to lead No. 8 nationally ranked Pfeiffer University to an 18-3 victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Tuesday.
The Lady Falcons improved to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the CVAC, while the Knights fell to 3-8 and 1-5.
Pfeiffer took control early and posted all 10 of the goals scored in the first half. The Lady Falcons found good shot selections as nine of the goals tallied in the opening 30 minutes were assisted.
St. Andrews got on the board 1:04 out of the halftime break on a quick pass by freshman Farran Sanders (Hickory, NC) on a whistle from behind the Pfeiffer goal that found freshman Katie Wright (Waterloo, NY) open for empty goal score.
The Lady Falcons scored two more before Wright concluded the SAPC scoring with two straight for the hat trick. Wright leads the Knights with 23 goals on the season.
Pfeiffer then recorded the final six goals of the contest to take the 15-point victory. Senior Melissa Anderson (Ellicott City, MD) led the Lady Falcons with two goals and four assists for a game-high six points. Gappert and M. Anderson both have 22 goals on the season while M. Anderson has an incredible 52 points in 10 games.
Four other Falcons tallied two goals apiece including junior Alycia Schwarz (Colorado Springs, CO), senior Brenna Clark (Wellington, FL), senior Ashlee Anderson (Ohswehen, Ontario, Canada) and freshman Kelly McConnell (Woodbridge, VA).
Senior Stephanie Thompson (Dunkirk, MD) sophomore Elie Fenton (Odenton, MD) and freshman Krissy Bentolila (Potomac, MD) each chipped in with one goal. Schwarz supplied three helpers, Fenton dished out two assists, and Clark and Bentolila both added one.
Senior goalkeeper Charlotte Dixon (Galesville, MD), who played the first 15 minutes of both halves and made three saves, improved to 7-3 in net for the Lady Falcons. Junior Kristen Kibler (Crownsville, MD) made four stops in relief of Dixon.
Freshman netminder Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, NY) made 16 saves for the Knights. All five of freshman Kelsey Binggeli’s (Newark, NY) shots were on goal and senior Ashley Kondziela’s (Vernon Hill, VA) wrap-around chance was saved by Dixon.
St. Andrews visiting No. 5 nationally ranked CVAC rival Limestone College (Gaffney, SC) on Saturday, with the opening draw scheduled at Noon. Pfeiffer hosts CVAC foe Belmont Abbey on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
