Knights coast to first CVAC win by trumping Lees-McRae, 15-3

LAURINBURG, NC—Freshman Jatise Hall (New York, NY) scored a career-high four goals and freshman Katie Wright (Waterloo, NY) posted a season-high eight points to lead St. Andrews Presbyterian College to a 15-3 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women’s lacrosse victory over visiting Lees-McRae College on Sunday.

The Knights, who garnered the programs first CVAC women’s lacrosse win with today’s ‘W’, improved to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the league. The Lady Bobcats fell to 0-7 and 0-5.

St. Andrews took control of the contest with the first seven goals in 20 minutes. Hall started the scoring with a free-position tally 2:29 into regulation. Freshman Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, NY) scored the second before junior Corey Whitbeck (Newark, NY) recorded the Knights only other free-position goal. Wright ended the 7-0 run by participating in the final four goals including scoring the first two and assisting on the last two.

The Bobcats came out of their second time out after freshman Farran Sanders (Hickory, NC) scored SAPC’s seventh goal with high energy while scoring their only two goals of the first half in a 46 second span. Junior Brittany Dabkowski (Manchester, MD) broke the shutout and freshman Susan Dael (Bel Air, MD) converted on a free-position opportunity.

The Knights ended the half with the final two scores to take a commanding 9-2 lead at halftime. St. Andrews continued its strong play with six goals in the first 17 minutes of the second frame. After holding Lees-McRae scoreless for 37 minutes, junior Stephanie Jaworski (Wellington, FL) scored the Lady Bobcats final goal with just over two minutes left. Senior Jenn Alevetsovitis (Baltimore, MD) assisted twice for LMC.

Wright, who also got credit for the game-winning goal, finished the day with four goals and four assists. Hall scored her four goals on just four shot attempts. Sanders added her first collegiate hat trick. Binggeli and Whitbeck each found the back of the Bobcats net twice. Binggeli also chipped in with three helpers and Whitbeck with one.

Whitbeck helped the Knights win 12-of-20 draw controls with a game-high six. SAPC held a 27-20 shot advantage and a 21-16 ground ball edge.

Freshman goaltender Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, NY) made 12 saves in route to her second win of the season.

Lees-McRae freshman netminder Ashley Newman (Deltona, FL) had nine stops.

St. Andrews will visit North Carolina Wesleyan (Rocky Mount, NC) on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
