No. 6 Lady Saints defeats Knights lacrosse, 16-4

LAURINBURG, NC—Four different Knights scored in Saturday’s women’s lacrosse game, but No. 6 nationally ranked Limestone College came away with the 16-4 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

The Lady Saints improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the CVAC while the Knights fell to 1-2 and 0-2.

Kelly Lickert scored the first two goals of the game to jumpstart the Limestone attack. Freshman Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, NY) answered with her fourth goal of the season with 22:27 left in the first to cut the SAPC deficit in half.

Four different Lady Saints scored over the next 20 minutes to pull out to a 6-1 lead. Junior Corey Whitbeck (Newark, NY) ended the run with her third goal of 2006 with 1:20 remaining in the first. However, Limestone followed with two goals in the final minute to take an 8-2 advantage at intermission.

The Lady Saints opened the second stanza with a goal but freshman Farran Sanders (Hickory, NC) tallied her third goal of ’06 to pull the Knights within six. Whitbeck assisted on Sanders score.

Limestone took control with another four-goal run in a seven-minute span midway through the second.

Freshman Katie Wright (Waterloo, NY) found the back of the Saints net at 10:32 left for the Knights final goal of the game. It was Wright’s first collegiate goal.

The Saints scored the final three goals to take the 12-goal victory. Jackie Weaver earned the win in goal for Limestone.

Freshman netminder Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, NY) made a season-high 18 saves for St. Andrews.

The Knights continue their season-long, four-game home stand on Tuesday when they host York College of Pennsylvania at 3:00 p.m.
